Here is a character bust done as part of my studies at www.animschool.com, designed by the artist Laia López.
He was modelled in Maya and hair was done using XGen in Maya, and textured using Substance designer.

After a few very rough passes, the hair was added, and the face would be continuously modelled and shaped.
The face would be shaped some more, to try and get the likeness better.
Playing with lights and mood, an finally getting to the final result.
